Birmingham, United Kingdom - Last January 27, 2007, Sensei’s Henry Perez, Daryl Perez and Harvey Perez established Karate Development Arts and Sports – United Kingdom (KDA-UK) due to the increasing demand of high quality martial arts education in the United Kingdom. Like their root organisation in the Philippines, KDA-UK provides a good opportunity for martial arts enthusiasts to learn the art of Shotokan Karate.

KDA-UK has partnered up with the English Karate Organisation (EKO), one of the largest karate organisations based in West Midlands, as well as an affiliate of the English Karate Federation (EKF), the karate governing body of England and member of the World Karate Federation.

Two months after being founded, KDA-UK faced its first test in the form of the English Karate Organisation’s National Tournament held last March 20, 2007. KDA-UK sent two of its senior karateka, Harvey Perez and Anthon Perez, to participate in the tournament. Even with only two months worth of preparation, they performed above expectations and made a name for themselves in the field of kata – winning a bronze medal and a silver cup in their respective categories.

The success of the tournament spread throughout the growing Filipino community, and slowly the number of students began to grow with  each passing week. KDA-UK has been invited to do demonstrations for small events and gatherings starting with the Filipino Basketball Association’s yearly tournament and some charity fund raising events.

Just recently, KDA-UK participated in the United Martial Arts (UMA) Open English Junior Karate Championships and performed beyond expectations. The 14 person team led by Sensei’s Daryl and Harvey Perez, exceeded all odds and managed to bring home three (3) gold, seven (7) silver and eleven(11) bronze medals in Kata and Kumite events.

KDA-UK started off with six students but they continue to grow, and now they have 25 registered members with an average of a new student coming in every other week. They use the same curriculum being used in KDA and displays the same promise and ability as those students back in the Philippines.
