| KDA university students shine, bags 18 medals |

Team KDA bagged a total of 18 medals by representing various universities around the National Capital Region (NCR) during the recently held Accel sponsored Inter-University Cup last September 29, 2008 at Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall organized by the Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF). National team members joined the event as well with the special category of Open Weight Divisions Kumite (sparring) Men/Women National Team as well as Kata (forms) National Team. The University of the Philippines Association of Karate (UPAK) in Diliman took home a total of three golds, three silvers and four bronzes tallying to 10 awards. Brian Samson won silver and bronze medals for the men's kumite +70kg division and open weight categories, respectively. Prado Bognot levelled up by garnering a silver for the men's kumite -55 kgs weight and a bronze in the men's intermediate kata. A newbie in the team, Joyce Ferrer, grabbed the silver medal in the women's kumite -55 kgs and a bronze in the women's novice kata division. Michelle Villamayor took home three golds and a bronze corresponding to the following games - women's novice kata, kumite +60 kgs, open weight division, and open weight division national team. Far Eastern University (FEU) rejoiced when Kathryn Legrata championed in the women's kumite -55 kgs weight category. Lia de Castro from the University Santo Tomas (UST) won a silver medal in the women's kumite -48 kgs weight and a bronze in the women's advance kata division. OJ delos Santos took home the bronze medal in the men's advance kata event representing De La Salle University (DLSU). In the men's team kumite category, DLSU took home 3 bronze medals while Jonathan Jardin placed second in an individual kumite event. The KDA university students were coached by Ma'am Maricar Rimando and Sir Wally Gozum. |
